Thu Kester-Phan, APRN, NP-C is a board-certified nurse practitioner specializing in interventional pain management. She focuses on identifying and treating the underlying causes of pain through evidence-based, procedure-driven care. Her approach integrates a patient-centered philosophy, emphasizing functional improvement, long-term outcomes, and overall well-being. She is committed to helping patients restore mobility, reduce pain, and return to living a higher quality of life.
Education & Training:
Dr. Goentzel attended Tabor College, where he was a four-year football letter winner. The discipline and work ethic developed during his athletic career continue to influence his approach to patient care. Following college, he conducted research at the University of Oklahoma Department of Biochemistry, developing a strong foundation in biomedical science. He went on to attend the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine, where he was selected as a Research Scholar between his first and second year of medical school, an honor awarded to students demonstrating exceptional promise in clinical and scientific research. Dr. Goentzel completed his Anesthesiology Residency at Baylor Scott & White Health, one of the nation’s leading academic health systems. Following residency, he served as an Assistant Clinical Professor of Anesthesiology, helping educate and train future physicians. He then completed advanced fellowship training in Interventional Pain Medicine, specializing in minimally invasive procedures used to diagnose and treat complex spine and nerve pain conditions.
National Recognition & Physician Education:
Dr. Goentzel has been selected by several medical device and healthcare technology companies as a top practitioner in the country in the fields of basivertebral nerve ablation (Intracept Procedure) and neuromodulation (spinal cord stimulation) to help develop emerging pain management technologies and procedural techniques. In this role, he collaborates with industry leaders to refine new minimally invasive procedures and train physicians across the United States on how to safely and effectively perform these advanced treatments. His involvement in procedural development and physician education allows him to remain at the forefront of innovation in interventional pain medicine. Additionally, his practice was selected as the first and only center of excellence in the field of basivertebral nerve ablation in the state of Kansas.
Clinical Experience:
Dr. Goentzel practiced interventional pain management in Texas for two years, treating a wide range of spine and nerve pain conditions using advanced minimally invasive techniques. He was later recruited back to his home town of Wichita, Kansas, where he founded Kansas Pain Consultants to bring advanced spine and pain care to patients throughout Wichita and surrounding communities.
